***** Replacing Alternator and need directions *****
I've only had my 2004 Acura since July and I need to replace the alternator TODAY! (FYI, I bought it used with 94k miles on it so I'm not surprised that it went, just bad timing) It crapped out on my Monday, I ordered an OEM part online and I am hoping upon it's arrival today that I will be able to install it tonight or at least before the weekend.
I have googled my little A$$ off searching for directions/steps on how to go about this. I have changed the one in my 99 Cherokee twice but I have no clue about Acura's. Does anyone know where I can find this info ASAP and hopefully for free?
Thanks! Gabby

I just changed mine yesterday.
1) disconnect battery.
2)Remove intake manifold cover( plastic cover on top of engine, 4 bolts, 12mm)
3)remove ignition coil cover( plastic cover 2 plastic screws-flat head, 1 plastic push button)
3)Remove belt(you will need a 14mm, long handle wrench to get to the bolt on the pulley. push it clock wise to relieve tension.
4)Remove alternator harness clamp and bracket. Disconnect wires from alternator.
5)Remove the mounting bolt and alternator bracket mounting bolt.
6)Remove alternator. This is the part I had trouble with. I could not get the alternator out of the engine bay.
You will need to slide the coolant bootle out of its bracket and move to the side. Then gentley bend the power steering reservoir bracket back. then you have enough room to get it out.
You will see what I"m talking about when you get in there.

My acura dealer charged me $1,120 to replace the alternator, the belt tensioner and the belt itself on my 2005 Acura MDX Touring last July. That's a lot of cash. My loss. Hopefully, you will be successful and avoid being gouged by the dealer.

I limped into an AutoZone, 30 minutes before they closed.
They loaned me the tools and I swapped mine in the parking lot and returned the core and tools, before they closed.
I was lucky that they had an alternator in stock and that I wasn't driving one of my Integeras (axle needs to come out to clear the alternator).
The engine was hot and I burned my hands a little.

Just replaced mine a couple weeks ago on my 2007 Type S. I didn't have to remove the fan; just had to remove the power steering reservoir and then it took a bit of maneuvering to get the old alternator out and the new one in. Thanks for the tips!
